There is an exciting technology available that takes water, and transforms it into an incredible agent of good health. The technology is ionization, and when water is passed through an ionizing machine, it is dramatically changed and improved.
When I first heard about this technology, I dismissed it immediately, as it did not fit in with my “the more natural, the better” philosophy. Putting water through a machine exposing it to a mild electric current did not seem natural to me, and I just thought that as long as the water was purified, it would not need to be altered after that.
I had recommended reverse osmosis machines to my patients for many years, as I had learned that the main objective with water, was to remove impurities. Yet I kept hearing reports that water purified by reverse osmosis, or distillation – was “dead” water. How could this be so?
I started to study pH, the measure of acidity, or alkalinity in the body. The optimum pH, measured with urine and saliva, is slightly alkaline. (The scale runs from 0 -14, 7.0 being neutral – below 7.0 is acidic, above is alkaline). Our blood needs to stay at a 7.35 and will rob alkaline minerals from our bones, teeth, and hair to maintain this level of alkalinity. I started to see that the more alkaline foods and drinks one consumed, the healthier they were. I learned the optimal water pH was an alkaline 9.5, but almost all water was a lot more acidic -running between 4.5 and 7.0.
A second variable is important – the ORP, or oxidation reduction potential. The healthiest waters are found to have an ORP of -250 millivolts. Most tap, bottled and purified water measures from +200 – +600mv, so this water actually requires energy from the body to process, rather than giving energy to the body, as ionized water does. Hence the term “dead” water… meaning that it does not have electrical energy, or the all important alkaline minerals (most of us have heard the term electrolytes), that are the basis for the generation of energy in the body.
Because the structure of the water molecule is altered when the water is put through ionization, many free electrons, or antioxidants are produced, with the ability to neutralize free radical damage. Also, the water molecule is reduced in size, (called “microclustered”), and this “wetter water” passes into the cell more easily. Yet another benefit is … twice as much oxygen is available in water that has been restructured in this way.
In nature’s plan, water consumed by humans, animals, etc…would have been bouncing over rocks in rivers and streams – close to impossible to drink now, due to water pollution. Ionization reproduces all the beneficial effects of water in motion – producing purified water that is “alive’, and teeming with ionically charged alkaline minerals, the basis of energy production. Dr. Robert Young, a pioneer in pH research, who treats the most serious of health conditions successfully using alkaline ionized water, and an alkaline diet, has been quoted as saying “The only real disease is over acidity”.
